The Real Problem

Most men don't keep relapsing because they don't want to get clean badly enough.

They relapse because the cycle is running on autopilot, and nobody has ever shown them how to turn it off.

A few good days. Maybe a great week. You're productive, showing up, feeling like yourself again. Then something hits - stress at work, a fight, a quiet night with too much time and not enough support.

And the craving is back.

"I'd put in two or three good days of work, then start drinking that evening. After I was done, I felt so much shame, guilt, anger, sadness - that I'd be stuck in a terrible mind state for another three or four days. Just in time to pick myself back up, ride it hard for two or three good days, feel that sense of accomplishment... and then do it all again."

Addiction is a loop - a conditioned pattern your brain learned to run when life became too painful, overwhelming, or empty. You cannot break a loop by muscling through it. You can only break it by understanding it.

What Hasn't Worked

The problem was never willpower.
It was the map.

  • 01

Quitting on willpower alone - holding on for a few weeks before the pull comes back stronger.

  • 02

Going to meetings - saying the right things, but never getting to the real thing underneath.

  • 03

Trying to figure it out privately - because asking for help feels like admitting defeat.

  • 04

Cutting back instead of stopping - negotiating with the loop instead of breaking it.

  • 05

Telling yourself you'll deal with it later - watching "later" turn into months, then years.

If any of that sounds familiar, you're not failing. You're using the wrong map. A man with the wrong map will walk in circles no matter how hard he walks.

This course gives you the right map.

Introducing The Course

Break The Addiction Loop

A focused 6-module course that gives you a clear, honest understanding of your addiction - and a concrete path forward that actually fits your life.

Built from fifteen years in the recovery space, four treatment centers, and a personal recovery story that started when Ben was fifteen years old.

01

Understand what's actually driving your addiction - and stop blaming yourself for a mechanism.

02

Understand why you've been stuck - and why willpower was always the wrong tool for this.

03

Leave with a daily foundation and a written personal recovery plan in hand.

Inside The 6-Module Course

The map that gets you out of the addiction loop and on to the recovery path.

01

Module 01

Understanding Addiction

What's actually happening

Most men enter recovery with the wrong map. You'll learn the Addiction Loop - Pain, Seeking, Use, Relief, Conditioning - and why it strengthens over time no matter how much you hate what it's doing to your life. You'll finally understand what's happening - and trade shame for clarity.

02

Module 02

Why You're Stuck

The hidden forces working against you

Willpower fails because it's fighting the wrong battle. You'll uncover the Trauma-Addiction Bridge, the role your nervous system and environment play in keeping the cycle alive, and why isolation makes recovery almost impossible alone.

03

Module 03

The First Breakthrough

How honesty changes everything

There is a specific kind of honesty that breaks addiction - not confession, not shame, but clear-eyed willingness to see yourself without the filters that have kept the loop running. You'll be ready to actually change.

04

Module 04

Stabilizing Your Life

Building the daily foundation

Early recovery is chaotic. Your nervous system is dysregulated, routines are gone, your environment is full of triggers. Your immediate action plan: daily routines, boundaries, and environmental changes that let freedom take root.

05

Module 05

What Actually Creates Change

Practice over insight

Insight alone doesn't create lasting change. Repetition does. A concrete toolkit for handling urges, interrupting automatic responses, and building new neural pathways that hold - so you have a real practiced response ready when urges hit.

06

Module 06

The Path Forward

Recovery at every level

The five pillars - Body, Mind, Environment, Community, Spirit - the stages of the recovery journey, and the deeper inner work that separates the men who stay clean from the men who cycle. Recovery isn't about stopping something. It's about building a life you no longer need to escape from.

Your Guide

Ben Goresky

Ben is the founder of Evolving Man and has spent 20+ years in men's work, recovery, and personal development. He holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Addiction Counselling from the University of Lethbridge and has worked in four treatment centers.

His own recovery started at fifteen. He's not teaching theory. He's teaching what he lived, what he learned from hundreds of men in the same cycle, and what he now uses with every man who enters the Freedom From Addiction Circle.

"Recovery isn't about stopping something. It's about building a life you no longer need to escape from."

Ben Goresky

In Their Own Words

Four men. Four different starting points. One thing in common - they stopped going it alone.

Mike

Mike

37 · Construction Entrepreneur · Father of 2 · 9 Months Sober

"I was just in autopilot. I didn't realize how bad it was until I got far enough away to look back."

Mike is 37. Construction entrepreneur. Owner of a lodge, bar, restaurant, and motel. Father of two. From the outside - a capable, driven man building something real. On the inside, running a cycle he couldn't see clearly: a few good days of work, a big night, two days of using, three days of shame and fog, back on the workhorse. For years.

"I was under the impression that I was the only one in the world as messed up as I am. In that circle, I realized - I'm not special. There are so many men out there with similar stories and similar hurts. And it was a sense of: together we can fix this."

Today he's sober, in a new relationship built on honesty, facing the highest stress of his life - a custody case, businesses reopening, long days - without once saying "I don't care." He used to say that once a week. "Hope is probably the biggest change in my life. You can't be hopeful when you're hungover."

Greg

Greg

50 · Vice President of Sales · 18 Months Sober

"I had a 10,000-pound gorilla on my back for 25 years. I'd put it down for a few months and it would be right back. I didn't know why. I do now."

Greg carried his addiction for 25 years. Heroin in his twenties, then cocaine, Adderall, kratom, weed every day. He'd tried AA twice, done outpatient treatment, had sponsors, built stretches of real sobriety. And then the gorilla would climb back on. By the time he reached out, he'd just lost his job and his now-wife had found him out.

Today he's 18 months sober, married, and recently spoke in front of 200 people at a work event. He used to be terrified of that kind of thing. Now he has a toolkit - and a group of men who hold him to it every single week.

Bjorn

Bjorn

38 · Self-Employed · 14 Months Sober

"Getting sober was like putting down a weight I didn't know I was carrying my whole life."

Bjorn was 38, self-employed, fit, capable - from the outside, everything looked fine. Underneath: undiagnosed ADHD, alcohol, porn, and a digital ecosystem of dopamine sources he'd been running on for decades. He wore what he called the "Guy Smiley" mask - the performance of being fine while privately unraveling.

"The worst kind is the functional addict. You don't get help for 37 years. People tell you your problems aren't that big a deal. And you just go back." He describes getting sober as being reborn - putting down something so heavy he hadn't known he was carrying it.

Braedy

Braedy

31 · Entrepreneur, Father · Sober

"We suffer in isolation, and we heal together. Anyone who's battling addiction cannot heal it on their own - although the addict will really, really try."

Braedy was 30 when he reached out. Entrepreneur, young family, healthy on the outside. He called himself a casual drinker. Then one night away from home he woke up in a hotel room - hungover, money lost at a casino - and saw clearly the gap between who he said he was and how he was actually living. He saw the ad that morning and reached out the same day.

"The consistency of every Wednesday - knowing I'm holding my sobriety accountable to these men - that's what made it sustainable. That was everything." He's now sober, in a deeper relationship, and actively bringing other men into the work.

I also want to really change from here forward. I've prepped myself these last three months and it feels like time to start my life again.

I'm aware of who I was and that person isn't for me or my family any longer. Wish him the best but this Mike will take it from here.

Love you guys and have so much respect for this group.

Holy shit guys, huge win to share. Instead of avoiding the situation with my trainer… I handled the uncertainty WITHOUT ACTING OUT… reached out to you guys for support… then had a vulnerable conversation with him.

We got aligned. Thank you all and Ben for your leadership. This is a huge milestone — I clearly see the path now.

I've decided that I control my outcomes. I'm going to take this life given to me by God and resurrect that person in me I've buried.

The person that never quits, never gives up and sees the light in absolute darkness.

I'm the man I've always wanted to be already. I'm just working on pulling down those walls so that person can become itself again.

It was proof that being open and vulnerable about my past, dark moments, addiction etc. is a healing and strengthening process that actually reduces shame rather than accentuates it.

So many things I was feeling — loneliness, lack of confidence — until today I truly didn't think were related to my lack of openness about addiction. Our call today was a pretty huge self-realization moment.

That's the medicine right there. Vulnerability doesn't weaken you — it's what sets you free.

I wanted to share that I am really glad I joined the call today. I was not looking forward to being sober today after coming back from work, I was feeling extremely irritable and lethargic.

My mood now is much better after the call and I also feel a bit more resilient.

I played a 90 min DJ set last night and stayed an extra hour to network. I challenged myself not to drink and I managed to come and leave the place completely sober.

And I had fun the whole time! Feels good.

You've tried the old maps long enough.

This course won't ask you to white-knuckle it. It will show you what's actually driving the loop - and give you a real path out.
